- Each 4x4 can be identified by the # on the passenger side, the spotter is responsible for insuring the # is visable to the judges .
- Drivers must wait at the start of each obstacle, for the judge to wave you in, so camera's and spectators are clear.
- All obstacles start with a name sign, and a point value. The driver can take any line he wishes, defined by ribbons and stakes or the tree line.
- You are considered committed when the front bumper is past the sign and the rear bumper is past the red flag, at the end.
- There are two scoring systems in place the All or Nothing, and the No-Stop rule.
- The All or Nothing applies to most of the trail obstacles and hill's, except Rocky Canyon, and Bills Gate, Can Opener. The driver has to get from the start sign to the finish ribbon with out impeding forward momentum for the judges count of 3 seconds. Failing this the flag will come down and you will not recieve the points for that particular obstacle. This insures obstacles are not extensively modified to the detriment of others.
- The No-Stop rule applies to Bills-Gate a,b, and Rocky Canyon and Can Opener. The total point value of these tech sections will only be awarded if the 4x4 does NOT stop for the judges count of just one second, and the driver does not accumulate any penalty* points see below.A portion of the total points will be awarded depending on the drivers progress. Lets say Rocky Canyon is worth 30, so each time the 4x4 stops for one second, thats-1 point,,engaging reverse is -2 points, and winching is -4 pts, and penalty points.
Examples.
- stops once -1, stops a second time -1 then engages reverse-2, (-4 total), then clears the obstacle 30-4=26 total pts !
- stops once -1,engages reverse-2, stops again -1, drives on but is stopped again-1, then decides to winch-4, finishes, 30 total minus 9pts=a score of 21 pts! Lets use a third example, you start off and at some point the terrain stops your 4x4 (-1), if it will roll backwards, without engaging reverse and you then clear that 'rock' you are not penalized for letting the 4x4 roll back to give you a better line, only if you have to engage reverse .
- Your at some point and you stop for one second-1, but keep on going stop again-1, and engage reverse-2, then keep going, stop again-1, but decide to winch-4, can't get around that corner, so stop -1,engage reverse-2 then finish,,30 total-12=18 pts!
The team at some point will decide on how best to get through this section with the most points in tack!Additional penalty points as listed below.
Other Penalty Points - Forgetting to fasten your seat belt prior to entering an obstacle-2
- Not using a tree saver-2
- Not weighting the winch line prior to it leaving the ground-2
- Breaking a stake or ribbon defining an obstacle-5
- Continuing to spin your tires after the judges 1-2-3 second count-5
- Entering a gated obstacle with the judges concent-2
- Driving on without waiting to see if the 4x4 behind you cleared the obstacle-2
- Driver or spotter using a profanity-2
- Minus 2 pts for every article that falls from your tipped over 4x4, except loonies and toonies, they belong to the judges.
Note:
- Trucks that have mechanical problems, are not entitled to try other obstacles until they reach the back of the group, so fix it fast! 4x4's that fail to make an obstacle MUST winch, unless OFFERED a tow.
- Drivers and spotters can talk about mechanical problems, directions, but not about there score.
- The highest point score in either class will get first place repectively, but the driver-spotter team from either tire class with the highest overall points, will have there names engraved on the Safari-Challenge cup
Most Important Rule... Have Fun! |
